Running a Fleet in Atlanta

Local conditions shape how a fleet program is built here. Three matter more than most.

A dedicated meter changes the demand charge

Georgia Power publishes a tariff written for electric vehicle charging. TOU-EVC-5, effective with June 2026 bills, applies to non-residential premises dedicated to EV charging behind a dedicated meter and carries a demand charge of $5.34 per kW. The standard commercial time-of-use rate a depot would otherwise sit on, TOU-GSD-18, charges $23.40 per kW on-peak. Under the EV tariff the on-peak window is only 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on summer weekdays, so nights, weekends and all of October through May bill off-peak. The meter is specified at design time and is not cheap to retrofit.

Where the depot sits is a legal question

Georgia law keeps through trucks out of the Atlanta perimeter. Under O.C.G.A. 40-6-51, trucks travelling I-75, I-85 or I-20 must take I-285 around the city, with four exceptions: pickup or delivery to a shipper inside I-285, travel to or from the carrier’s terminal facilities inside I-285, travel to a repair facility inside it, or a driver going to or from a residence within the perimeter. A companion rule confines any vehicle with more than six wheels to the two right-hand lanes on roads of three or more lanes. Siting a depot inside the perimeter creates the terminal exception; siting it outside means routing around.

Georgia reset the incentives in January

House Bill 463, the Georgia Economic Growth and Tax Relief Act of 2026, repealed the state’s Electric Vehicle Charger Credit along with the Low Emission Vehicle and Zero Emission Vehicle credits, effective January 1, 2026. What remains for a private depot is Georgia Power’s Business EV Charger Plus Rebate: $250 per kW for Level 2 and $150 per kW for DC fast charging, capped at the lesser of half the project cost or $30,000 per premises, and $60,000 per applicant per calendar year. Running the other way, every fully electric commercial vehicle registered in Georgia carries a $357.98 annual licensing fee for the year to June 2027.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets based in Atlanta and throughout the greater Atlanta metro. Services are delivered through our fleet management platform, our vendor network, and our fleet specialists, not through a branch you need to visit.

No. Inspiration Fleet’s platform is an open ecosystem. You keep the vendors that work for you and we integrate their data, or we recommend partners if you want a change.

A fleet management company manages an organization’s vehicles across their lifecycle so the organization can focus on its core business. Inspiration Fleet plans the fleet, acquires and finances vehicles, manages maintenance, telematics, drivers, fuel, and tolls, and remarkets vehicles at the end of their economic life, with the data from all of it in one platform. That is a managed service, not a software subscription.

Inspiration Fleet is built for fleet-intensive organizations across Atlanta and the eleven-county metro. That includes drayage and intermodal fleets connecting to the Port of Savannah through Georgia’s inland terminals — the Gainesville Inland Port opened on May 4, 2026 with Norfolk Southern service five days a week and is projected to eliminate 52,000 truck trips through Atlanta, while the Appalachian Regional Port at Crandall runs a direct 388-mile CSX route to Garden City Terminal; distribution and third-party logistics fleets in a market where CBRE recorded 15.1 million square feet of leasing activity and 2.6 million square feet of net absorption in the second quarter of 2026 against 8.2% direct vacancy; construction fleets moving between job sites across Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett and the collar counties; HVAC, plumbing, and electrical field service fleets dispatching through perimeter traffic; and healthcare and medical supply distribution serving hospital systems across the region.

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets of any composition, from light-duty cars and vans to work trucks and specialty vehicles, for organizations in industries such as construction, field services, healthcare, distribution, higher education, and professional services.

Inspiration Fleet is built for organizations that operate fleets at scale and want a full-service partner rather than a set of point solutions. If your organization manages dozens or hundreds of vehicles, speak with a fleet expert and we will tell you quickly whether we are the right fit.

Fleet Management Coverage in Atlanta, Georgia

Nationwide Platform, Atlanta Focus

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets across Atlanta and the surrounding region, from initial assessment through full-scale program management, with dedicated project management and ongoing operational support.

Georgia’s emissions program is narrower than most fleet operators expect. Georgia’s Clean Air Force tests only gasoline cars and light-duty trucks rated at 8,500 pounds GVWR or less, registered in thirteen metro counties, and exempts vehicles above that rating along with anything running exclusively on diesel or another alternative fuel — though a flexible-fuel vehicle still has to be tested if one of its fuels is gasoline. Georgia has also never adopted Advanced Clean Trucks, so there is no state purchase mandate to plan around. That leaves the case here resting on operating cost and uptime, which is the part we manage.

Areas served: Atlanta and the greater Atlanta metro, including Fulton, DeKalb, Cobb, Gwinnett, Clayton, Cherokee, Forsyth, Henry, Douglas, Fayette, and Rockdale counties, Georgia.
