Running a Fleet in Kansas City

Local conditions shape how a fleet program is built here. Three matter more than most.

There is no single Kansas City demand charge

Evergy Missouri Metro’s Large General Service schedule bills demand at $6.978 per kW across the four summer months of June through September and $3.754 per kW across the eight winter months, with a facilities charge of $3.494 per kW alongside it. Evergy Missouri West, which serves another part of this metro, files a separate tariff with its own numbers. Which entity serves a depot gets settled before anything is modelled.

A separate meter changes the rate

Evergy’s Business EV Charging Service is open to non-residential customers using electricity for the exclusive use of charging electric vehicles, separately metered, with ancillary load such as area lighting capped at 5 kW. It carries no demand charge on billing demand at all — customer charge, facilities charge, and energy only — with on-peak hours of 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and a super off-peak period from midnight to 6 a.m. every day. The facilities charge remains and is set by the highest monthly demand in the past twelve months.

A rebate written for fleet depots

Evergy’s commercial EV charger rebate defines a fleet site as one serving the vehicles of the business that occupies it, and not employees or the general public. A fleet site can claim up to ten Level 2 ports and two DC fast chargers, at the lesser of forty percent of project costs or $2,500 per Level 2 port and $20,000 per DC fast charger, to a maximum of $65,000 per site. It requires being on the Business EV Charging Service rate, and the programme runs to 31 March 2028.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets based in Kansas City and throughout the metro on both the Missouri and Kansas sides. Services are delivered through our fleet management platform, our vendor network, and our fleet specialists, not through a branch you need to visit.

No. Inspiration Fleet’s platform is an open ecosystem. You keep the vendors that work for you and we integrate their data, or we recommend partners if you want a change.

A fleet management company manages an organization’s vehicles across their lifecycle so the organization can focus on its core business. Inspiration Fleet plans the fleet, acquires and finances vehicles, manages maintenance, telematics, drivers, fuel, and tolls, and remarkets vehicles at the end of their economic life, with the data from all of it in one platform. That is a managed service, not a software subscription.

Inspiration Fleet is built for fleet-intensive organizations across the Kansas City metro. That includes distribution and logistics fleets working a metro that sits on the national interstate and rail network; construction fleets operating across two states in an ordinary week; HVAC, plumbing, and electrical field service fleets that need technicians on site and parts on the truck; manufacturing and industrial service fleets moving crews and material between plants; and healthcare systems, universities, and public-sector fleets that answer to procurement rules as much as to operations.

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets of any composition, from light-duty cars and vans to work trucks and specialty vehicles, for organizations in industries such as construction, field services, healthcare, distribution, higher education, and professional services.

Inspiration Fleet is built for organizations that operate fleets at scale and want a full-service partner rather than a set of point solutions. If your organization manages dozens or hundreds of vehicles, speak with a fleet expert and we will tell you quickly whether we are the right fit.

Fleet Management Coverage in Kansas City, Missouri

Nationwide Platform, Kansas City Focus

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets across the Kansas City metro on both sides of the state line, from initial assessment through full-scale program management, with dedicated project management and ongoing operational support.

The two states do not just charge electric vehicles different amounts, they use different instruments. Missouri collects an annual special fuel decal in lieu of fuel tax — $159 for a commercial motor vehicle licensed at 18,000 pounds or less, $309 from 18,001 to 36,000 pounds, and $1,509 above that on the Department of Revenue’s 1 January 2026 schedule. Kansas builds it into the registration fee instead, at $200 a year for an all-electric truck of 12,000 pounds or less against $40 for its conventional equivalent, with no electric differential above that weight. Which side of State Line Road a vehicle is domiciled on decides which applies. We handle that administration as part of the program and show the whole fleet in one view.

Areas served: The Kansas City metro, including Jackson, Clay, Platte, and Cass counties in Missouri and Johnson, Wyandotte, and Leavenworth counties in Kansas.
