Running a Fleet in Minneapolis

Local conditions shape how a fleet program is built here. Three matter more than most.

Off-peak demand is priced at a fraction

On Xcel Energy’s General Time of Day service, on-peak demand is billed at $11.90 per kW from October through May and $16.49 per kW from June through September, while off-peak demand in excess of on-peak demand is $3.35 per kW year round. The tariff defines the on-peak period as the hours between 9:00 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, excluding listed holidays, and everything else as off-peak. Those are tariff rates before riders and surcharges, and a depot that charges overnight sits entirely in the cheaper window.

Crossing 1,000 kW is a design decision

Xcel’s tariff makes General Time of Day service mandatory for any non-residential customer whose 15-minute measured demand reaches 1,000 kW in at least four of the past twelve consecutive months. How a depot is sized therefore decides which rate it ends up on. That is an engineering choice worth making deliberately rather than discovering on a bill.

Axle limits arrive on a published date

Minnesota runs seasonal load restrictions zone by zone on dates the commissioner of transportation sets each year. While they are in force, state law caps the weight on any single axle at five tons on an unpaved street or highway and ten tons on a paved one. In the 2025–26 season the metro zone restriction ran from 3 March to 20 April 2026. Heavy work here gets planned around that window rather than around it arriving.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets based in Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and throughout the Twin Cities metro. Services are delivered through our fleet management platform, our vendor network, and our fleet specialists, not through a branch you need to visit.

No. Inspiration Fleet’s platform is an open ecosystem. You keep the vendors that work for you and we integrate their data, or we recommend partners if you want a change.

A fleet management company manages an organization’s vehicles across their lifecycle so the organization can focus on its core business. Inspiration Fleet plans the fleet, acquires and finances vehicles, manages maintenance, telematics, drivers, fuel, and tolls, and remarkets vehicles at the end of their economic life, with the data from all of it in one platform. That is a managed service, not a software subscription.

Inspiration Fleet is built for fleet-intensive organizations across the Twin Cities. That includes construction and site development fleets working a build season shaped by seasonal load restrictions; distribution and last-mile fleets serving a seven-county metro from both sides of the river; HVAC, plumbing, and electrical field service fleets that need technicians on site and parts on the truck; utility and energy contractor fleets working across Minnesota and western Wisconsin; and healthcare systems, universities, and public-sector fleets that answer to procurement rules as much as to operations.

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets of any composition, from light-duty cars and vans to work trucks and specialty vehicles, for organizations in industries such as construction, field services, healthcare, distribution, higher education, and professional services.

Inspiration Fleet is built for organizations that operate fleets at scale and want a full-service partner rather than a set of point solutions. If your organization manages dozens or hundreds of vehicles, speak with a fleet expert and we will tell you quickly whether we are the right fit.

Fleet Management Coverage in Minneapolis, Minnesota

Nationwide Platform, Twin Cities Focus

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets across Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and the surrounding metro, from initial assessment through full-scale program management, with dedicated project management and ongoing operational support.

Minnesota charges a surcharge on all-electric vehicles calculated as half a percent of the manufacturer’s suggested retail price, stepped down by the vehicle’s year of life, with a floor of $150 for registration periods beginning on or after 1 January 2026 and on or before 30 June 2027, and $100 for periods beginning after that. It is a value-based charge rather than a flat fee, so the cost moves with what you buy. We handle that administration as part of the program and show the whole fleet in one view.

Areas served: Minneapolis, Saint Paul, and the Twin Cities metro, including Hennepin, Ramsey, Anoka, Dakota, Washington, Scott, and Carver counties, Minnesota.
