Running a Fleet in San Diego

Local conditions shape how a fleet program is built here. Three matter more than most.

The demand charge carries a twelve-month floor

On SDG&E’s large commercial schedule, open to non-residential customers whose monthly maximum demand reaches 200 kW, the non-coincident demand charge at secondary voltage is $44.18 per kW, alongside a summer maximum on-peak demand charge of $69.07 per kW and $46.76 in winter. The tariff sets the non-coincident charge at the higher of the maximum monthly demand or fifty percent of the maximum annual demand — so a single uncontrolled peak puts a floor under the bill for the rest of the year.

A rate that swaps the demand charge for a subscription

SDG&E also files a high-power electric vehicle schedule for separately metered non-residential charging at 20 kW and above, which in the tariff’s own words replaces the traditional maximum demand charge with a subscription charge billed monthly on the customer’s subscription level. Fleets subscribe in 10 kW increments below 150 kW and 25 kW increments above it, and exceeding the level raises the subscription rather than triggering a penalty. Super off-peak runs midnight to 6 a.m. on weekdays and midnight to 2 p.m. at weekends.

The busiest truck crossing in California

Bureau of Transportation Statistics data recorded 990,111 incoming truck crossings at Otay Mesa in 2025, second only to Laredo on the entire United States–Mexico border and the busiest in California, with a further 60,494 at Tecate. Fleets working those ports carry customs documentation, driver credentialing, and dwell-time risk that belongs in the same operating picture as everything else.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets based in San Diego and throughout San Diego County. Services are delivered through our fleet management platform, our vendor network, and our fleet specialists, not through a branch you need to visit.

No. Inspiration Fleet’s platform is an open ecosystem. You keep the vendors that work for you and we integrate their data, or we recommend partners if you want a change.

A fleet management company manages an organization’s vehicles across their lifecycle so the organization can focus on its core business. Inspiration Fleet plans the fleet, acquires and finances vehicles, manages maintenance, telematics, drivers, fuel, and tolls, and remarkets vehicles at the end of their economic life, with the data from all of it in one platform. That is a managed service, not a software subscription.

Inspiration Fleet is built for fleet-intensive organizations across San Diego County. That includes distribution and last-mile fleets working the border ports and the I-5 and I-15 corridors; construction fleets operating from the coast to the inland valleys; HVAC, plumbing, and electrical field service fleets that need technicians on site and parts on the truck; research and laboratory service fleets supporting the region’s science and technology employers; and healthcare systems, universities, and public-sector fleets that answer to procurement rules as much as to operations.

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets of any composition, from light-duty cars and vans to work trucks and specialty vehicles, for organizations in industries such as construction, field services, healthcare, distribution, higher education, and professional services.

Inspiration Fleet is built for organizations that operate fleets at scale and want a full-service partner rather than a set of point solutions. If your organization manages dozens or hundreds of vehicles, speak with a fleet expert and we will tell you quickly whether we are the right fit.

Fleet Management Coverage in San Diego, California

Nationwide Platform, San Diego Focus

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets across San Diego and San Diego County, from initial assessment through full-scale program management, with dedicated project management and ongoing operational support.

California assesses commercial vehicle weight fees on declared gross weight, but the statute states plainly that pickup truck and electric vehicle weight fees are not calculated under that section. An electric commercial vehicle is assessed instead on unladen weight, under a separate schedule that tops out at $358. That is the weight fee alone rather than the whole registration, and it is exactly the line a total cost of ownership model gets wrong. We handle that administration as part of the program and show the whole fleet in one view.

Areas served: San Diego and San Diego County, including Chula Vista, Oceanside, Escondido, Carlsbad, El Cajon, and Vista, California.
