Running a Fleet in Austin

Local conditions shape how a fleet program is built here. Three matter more than most.

A municipal utility, and only part of the metro

Austin Energy is owned by the City of Austin and its rates are approved each year by the City Council, not set in a deregulated retail market. Its service area covers approximately 437 square miles, most of that in Travis County with the remainder in Williamson County, and about half of it sits inside the Austin city limits. Which side of that boundary a depot lands on decides the rate rules that apply to it, so it gets checked before anything is modelled.

Your summer peak prices next year

Austin Energy assigns a commercial customer’s general service rate class by averaging June through September demand annually, applies the corresponding rates to all usage billed on or after 1 January, and holds the class for not less than twelve months. Billed demand is the fifteen-minute interval of greatest use. A charging peak set in July therefore prices the following calendar year, which makes summer load shape a design decision rather than an operating one.

A fleet charging schedule capped at ten customers

Austin Energy files a commercial schedule for fleet and public electric vehicle charging, available at a single metered point of delivery with load at least ninety percent attributable to EV charging and average monthly billed demand above 100 kW over the previous six months. Its energy charge is zero, so the bill is customer charge, demand, and power supply rather than kilowatt-hours. The tariff states that participation is limited to ten customers on a first-come, first-served basis, with a twelve-month commitment and a one-year lockout on returning once you leave.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets based in Austin and throughout Central Texas. Services are delivered through our fleet management platform, our vendor network, and our fleet specialists, not through a branch you need to visit.

No. Inspiration Fleet’s platform is an open ecosystem. You keep the vendors that work for you and we integrate their data, or we recommend partners if you want a change.

A fleet management company manages an organization’s vehicles across their lifecycle so the organization can focus on its core business. Inspiration Fleet plans the fleet, acquires and finances vehicles, manages maintenance, telematics, drivers, fuel, and tolls, and remarkets vehicles at the end of their economic life, with the data from all of it in one platform. That is a managed service, not a software subscription.

Inspiration Fleet is built for fleet-intensive organizations across Central Texas. That includes construction and site development fleets keeping pace with sustained regional growth; distribution and last-mile fleets working the I-35 corridor; HVAC, plumbing, and electrical field service fleets that need technicians on site and parts on the truck; manufacturing and semiconductor supply fleets moving crews and material between plants; and healthcare systems, universities, and public-sector fleets that answer to procurement rules as much as to operations.

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets of any composition, from light-duty cars and vans to work trucks and specialty vehicles, for organizations in industries such as construction, field services, healthcare, distribution, higher education, and professional services.

Inspiration Fleet is built for organizations that operate fleets at scale and want a full-service partner rather than a set of point solutions. If your organization manages dozens or hundreds of vehicles, speak with a fleet expert and we will tell you quickly whether we are the right fit.

Fleet Management Coverage in Austin, Texas

Nationwide Platform, Austin Focus

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets across Austin and Central Texas, from initial assessment through full-scale program management, with dedicated project management and ongoing operational support.

Texas runs vehicle emissions testing in only a few metros, and Austin’s programme area is the smallest of them: Travis and Williamson counties, with Hays, Bastrop, and Caldwell outside it. The inspection fee there is capped at $11.50 against $18.50 in the Houston and Dallas–Fort Worth areas, and electric and diesel vehicles are not required to be inspected at all. Across a mixed fleet the obligation therefore falls only on the gasoline units. We handle that administration as part of the program and show the whole fleet in one view.

Areas served: Austin and Central Texas, including Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, and Caldwell counties, Texas.
