Running a Fleet in Miami

Local conditions shape how a fleet program is built here. Three matter more than most.

The EV rate exists. It is not for you.

Florida Power & Light’s filed tariff, effective January 1, 2026, carries a base demand charge of $12.70 per kW on General Service Demand and $15.12 per kW on General Service Large Demand. Florida regulators have approved EV-specific rate riders that cap billed demand at the month’s kilowatt-hours divided by seventy-five hours — real relief, and a private depot cannot have it. Every one of those riders states that eligible charging installations “must be accessible to the public.” A fleet yard charging its own trucks behind a gate sits on the standard schedule with an uncapped demand charge. In Miami the peak has to be engineered down, because it cannot be rated down.

No mandate, no inspection, no EV fee

Florida ended its vehicle emissions inspection programme when the legislature repealed Chapter 325 in 2001 — and Miami-Dade was one of only six counties that ever had one. Florida has adopted neither Advanced Clean Trucks nor Advanced Clean Fleets. And Florida charges no annual electric vehicle registration fee: the most recent attempt to create one, Senate Bill 804, died in the Transportation committee on March 13, 2026. There is no compliance clock in this market and no subsidy waiting either. The case for changing anything about a Miami fleet has to close on operating cost, which is a harder test and a more durable one.

Six months of hurricane season, every year

The Atlantic hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30 and peaks on September 10, so half of every operating year is spent inside it. That shapes a South Florida depot in ways a northern yard never considers: where the vehicles stage, how quickly a fleet can be relocated out of a surge zone, whether charging hardware is specified for a wind-borne-debris region, and what happens to a depot with no grid. A fleet that is fully electric and fully dependent on one site has concentrated a risk that a diesel fleet spread across fuel cards did not have. That is an engineering and contingency question, and it is worth answering before the first charger is ordered rather than during a watch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets based in Miami and throughout South Florida. Services are delivered through our fleet management platform, our vendor network, and our fleet specialists, not through a branch you need to visit.

No. Inspiration Fleet’s platform is an open ecosystem. You keep the vendors that work for you and we integrate their data, or we recommend partners if you want a change.

A fleet management company manages an organization’s vehicles across their lifecycle so the organization can focus on its core business. Inspiration Fleet plans the fleet, acquires and finances vehicles, manages maintenance, telematics, drivers, fuel, and tolls, and remarkets vehicles at the end of their economic life, with the data from all of it in one platform. That is a managed service, not a software subscription.

Inspiration Fleet is built for fleet-intensive organizations across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. That includes port drayage and intermodal fleets serving PortMiami; air cargo and freight forwarding fleets working Miami International, one of the largest international freight gateways in the United States and the principal air trade link between North America and Latin America; distribution and third-party logistics fleets across the Medley, Doral, and Hialeah industrial corridors; construction fleets working a market that builds to some of the strictest wind-load standards in the country; HVAC, plumbing, and electrical field service fleets whose call volume runs year-round in this climate; and healthcare and medical supply distribution serving hospital systems across South Florida.

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets of any composition, from light-duty cars and vans to work trucks and specialty vehicles, for organizations in industries such as construction, field services, healthcare, distribution, higher education, and professional services.

Inspiration Fleet is built for organizations that operate fleets at scale and want a full-service partner rather than a set of point solutions. If your organization manages dozens or hundreds of vehicles, speak with a fleet expert and we will tell you quickly whether we are the right fit.

Fleet Management Coverage in Miami, Florida

Nationwide Platform, Miami Focus

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets across Miami and South Florida, from initial assessment through full-scale program management, with dedicated project management and ongoing operational support.

Florida law is unusually explicit about why the utility economics look the way they do. Section 366.94 of the Florida Statutes lets the Public Service Commission approve a utility’s electric vehicle charging programmes only where it determines that the general body of ratepayers will not end up paying to recover that investment. That is a statutory bar on cross-subsidy, and it is why FPL’s fleet offering is a customer-paid monthly service rather than a rebate, and why the demand-limiter relief is reserved for public charging. Understanding that structure is the difference between a Miami depot that pencils and one that does not.
