Running a Fleet in Seattle

Local conditions shape how a fleet program is built here. Three matter more than most.

Three utilities, three different offers

Which utility meters the depot decides what a charging project is worth here, and the boundary is not the city line. Seattle City Light serves Seattle plus Shoreline, Lake Forest Park, Normandy Park, Burien, Renton, Tukwila, and SeaTac — the Duwamish and airport industrial core — and pays a large business half the cost of a DC fast charging project up to $100,000 per site, with fleet-only depots eligible and site caps that reset every calendar year. Puget Sound Energy covers the rest of King and Pierce and caps a whole charging location at $250,000. Tacoma Power’s rebate funding is currently paused.

Two peak windows, not one

Puget Sound Energy defines off-peak as any time outside 6 a.m. to 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. — two separate peaks in a day rather than one, which is an awkward shape for a fleet that dispatches in the morning and returns in the evening. Customers on PSE’s fleet programme are enrolled automatically in its EV Load Management Incentive, a monthly on-bill credit of $10 to $165 per charger for delaying charging into those hours: $120 a year for a Level 2 charger, $300 for a small DC fast charger, $1,000 for a medium one and $2,000 for a large one, prorated by the share of charging events that land off-peak. Fitting a duty cycle around both windows is a scheduling problem, and it pays.

Trucks cannot buy out of the traffic

Anything over 10,000 pounds is barred from the I-405 and SR 167 express toll lanes — in WSDOT’s words, at any time, including nights or weekends. Puget Sound commercial fleets run their whole duty cycle in general-purpose traffic, which is the drive cycle where diesel economy is worst and regenerative braking is worth most. The fixed costs are indifferent to what is under the hood: an 80,000-pound unit pays $1,740 a year in gross-weight fees, a freight project fee of fifteen percent on top, now rising two percent annually, and $75 more if it is electric.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets based in Seattle, Tacoma, and throughout the greater Puget Sound region. Services are delivered through our fleet management platform, our vendor network, and our fleet specialists, not through a branch you need to visit.

No. Inspiration Fleet’s platform is an open ecosystem. You keep the vendors that work for you and we integrate their data, or we recommend partners if you want a change.

A fleet management company manages an organization’s vehicles across their lifecycle so the organization can focus on its core business. Inspiration Fleet plans the fleet, acquires and finances vehicles, manages maintenance, telematics, drivers, fuel, and tolls, and remarkets vehicles at the end of their economic life, with the data from all of it in one platform. That is a managed service, not a software subscription.

Inspiration Fleet is built for fleet-intensive organizations across Seattle, Tacoma, and the Puget Sound region. That includes drayage and intermodal fleets serving the Northwest Seaport Alliance, which moved 3,156,598 twenty-foot equivalent units in 2025, down 5.5% from 2024; distribution and third-party logistics fleets in a market CBRE measured at 11.7% vacancy in the second quarter of 2026 with construction underway down 61.9% year over year, conditions that favor a tenant negotiating depot space with charging rights; construction fleets moving between job sites across King, Pierce, and Snohomish counties; HVAC, plumbing, and electrical field service fleets dispatching through the general-purpose traffic that Class 3 and heavier vehicles cannot leave; and healthcare and medical supply distribution serving hospital systems across the region.

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets of any composition, from light-duty cars and vans to work trucks and specialty vehicles, for organizations in industries such as construction, field services, healthcare, distribution, higher education, and professional services.

Inspiration Fleet is built for organizations that operate fleets at scale and want a full-service partner rather than a set of point solutions. If your organization manages dozens or hundreds of vehicles, speak with a fleet expert and we will tell you quickly whether we are the right fit.

Fleet Management Coverage in Seattle, Washington

Nationwide Platform, Puget Sound Focus

Inspiration Fleet manages commercial fleets across Seattle, Tacoma, and the surrounding region, from initial assessment through full-scale program management, with dedicated project management and ongoing operational support.

Washington’s regulatory picture is easy to misread. The state ended its vehicle emission check program on January 1, 2020 after 38 years, so there is no periodic tailpipe test to schedule. Washington has adopted Advanced Clean Trucks, and the Department of Ecology has paused the rule’s deficit generation and credit surrender requirements through December 31, 2026 — but that guidance is addressed to vehicle manufacturers. Advanced Clean Trucks is a sales-mix obligation on truck makers, not a purchase mandate on your fleet, and Washington has not adopted Advanced Clean Fleets. What changes in 2027 is what manufacturers must sell here, which moves availability and price. We plan procurement around that.

Areas served: Seattle, Tacoma, and the greater Puget Sound region, including King, Pierce, Snohomish, Kitsap, and Thurston counties, Washington.
