Have vans on fixed routes in California? The Ford E-Transit is your fleet’s new best friend.
Ah, California. The Golden State. Home to Hollywood, Yosemite, and Tesla (for now). It’s also one of the most expensive places to operate a vehicle fleet in the country. The state has some of the highest gas prices in the land and increasingly stringent environmental rules that require adding electric vehicles to fleets starting in 2025. If you’re currently operating 50+ vans in California on fixed routes of about 100 miles, don’t miss out on your chance to lower your OPEX by almost 30%, but only if you act in 2024!
Here’s the situation: via its HVIP program, California is offering up to $16,000 of cash on the hood for fleets to make the switch to an electric van. There are many dealers sitting on inventory of 2023 Ford E-Transits – which have a real-world range of about 100 miles when loaded up. If you’re delivering people or goods on a fixed route, an E-Transit could be just what you need to lower your operating costs and pad your operating margins.
Is 100 miles enough? As it turns out, many van used cases see duty cycles of less than 100 miles. That said, we’ve seen fleets add electric vans only to find that after upfitting and cargo, they don’t have enough range to get to all of their job sites. But if you have certainty around certain routes and can keep gas-powered vans for the rest, making the switch to electric can help reduce the overall TCO costs across your fleet.
How about charging? The great news about a 100 mile per day duty cycle is that the E-Transit can easily, and quickly, be recharged with an easy-to-install 240V Level 2 charger. In fact, some fleets even install Level 2 chargers at drivers’ homes to make the transition even more convenient for everyone involved.
